Proper nutrition is the keystone of a healthy and productive life. When you take in the nutrients your body needs, you provide the raw material for all the processes your body performs on a daily – and nightly – basis. Your nutritional choices have a profound influence on the level of well-being you can achieve.

The most important part of most foods you buy in the grocery store, is the label on the back. Taking the time to read the nutritional values on the packages before you buy, helps toinsure that you are making the right choice for yourself and the ones you love.

Carbs are not the enemy. Your body needs carbs to survive and by cutting them out, you can cause your organs damage or even cause them to fail. That said, there are good and bad carbohydrates. The good ones tend to be complex carbs like whole-grain and other fiber-rich foods.

One way of maintaining good health is to visit the doctor on a regular basis. By doing this the individual will be aware of any health issues that he may have and therefore removing the risk of being ill or sick. It is advisable to go to the doctor at least twice a year.

To understand nutrition’s importance, you need to gain an understanding of how your body functions. It is made up of many complex systems: the neural, the gastro-intestinal, the lymphatic, the endocrine, the muscular-skeletal and so on. These all dovetail and work together as a whole. This complex “wholeness” is what you need to gain a good sense of, in order to meet your body’s nutritonal needs.

When you apply the basic principles of nutrition, you maximize the quality of the fuel you feed your body. This is an important step in your overall health and wellness plan. Like using the proper fuel in you car, proper nutrition can optimize the overall performance of your body. Remember, don’t live to eat, instead, eat to live!
