Proper nutrition is essential for a high quality of life and an overall sense of well being. Many Americans, however, struggle with knowing what foods are healthy to eat, and what foods are best consumed in very small doses, and so levels of obesity and weight-related disorders and diseases continue to rise.

Vitamin C is an important part of a healthy diet. It is an effective antioxidant. It also helps forms the collagen which is needed for healthy blood vessels and gums, wound healing, and development of teeth and bones. Vitamin C has been found to decrease the risk of cancer, cataracts, heart disease and other diseases.

To lower your blood pressure, you should include plenty of potassium in your diet. Studies have shown that consuming potassium on a regular basis can give you significantly lower blood pressure. Some examples of foods rich in calcium are lima beans, potatoes, and spinach. Fortified orange juice is another great source.

Fat is not your enemy. Cutting fat out of your diet or eating very little fat can be harmful to you. Eat fat as part of a well-balanced diet. There is no need to eat a carton of ice cream in one sitting, but a bowl is fine. Everything in moderation.

A great nutrition tip is to opt for healthier beer if you’re a beer drinker. Regular beer can cause you to put on weight so it’s a good idea to switch to a healthier beer. Healthier beers include light beers or even dark beers. Dark beers have been proven to be good for heart health.

It can be difficult, if not downright impossible, to fully enjoy life on a daily basis if your overall nutrition leaves much to be desired. Improving your nutrition, however, need not take days – by implementing the tips and suggestions listed below, you can begin to feel the benefits virtually overnight!
